Question 1

How far does an electric scooter for delivery really go on one charge?

Accepted Answer

Less than the IDC figure on the brochure. Load, stop-start riding, fast riding modes and monsoon conditions all reduce it, and fleets rarely use more than about 75% of the pack between top-ups. A 145 km IDC scooter can plan on roughly 70 usable km per charge in delivery service. A short pilot on your own routes gives the real number.

Question 2

Is battery swapping better than charging for delivery scooters?

Accepted Answer

It depends on shift structure. ICCT’s 2021 analysis found swapping 23–36% costlier than plug-in charging for a 115 km-a-day delivery scooter, mainly because swap energy cost more per kWh. Swapping pays when one scooter runs two or three shifts a day and charging time would cost orders.

Question 3

What battery warranty should a delivery fleet ask for?

Accepted Answer

Cover stated in kilometres or charge cycles that matches your duty cycle, with a minimum state-of-health guarantee. A delivery scooter can run about 36,500 km a year, so a 30,000–50,000 km cap written for commuters can expire in 10 to 16 months.

Question 4

Does the PM E-DRIVE subsidy apply to delivery scooters?

Accepted Answer

Yes, for registered electric two-wheelers priced up to ₹1.5 lakh ex-factory. The incentive is ₹2,500 per kWh, capped at ₹5,000 a vehicle, and runs until 31 March 2028 or until the e-2W fund is used up.

Question 5

Should a delivery fleet buy, lease or rent electric scooters?

Accepted Answer

Buy if you control rider assignment and can keep utilisation high. Lease if you want control without residual-value risk. Rent per rider if churn is high. Rider churn is the main factor, because an idle owned scooter still costs money.
