Question 1

What is a good battery state of health for a three-year-old fleet EV?

Accepted Answer

At the industry average of roughly 2.3% loss a year, a vehicle three years in should sit somewhere in the low 90s. A depot-AC-charged fleet in a mild climate can hold the mid 90s; a heavy fast-charging fleet in a hot city may already be near 90%. Below the high 80s at three years is worth investigating — check that vehicle's DC session share and its parking state of charge before assuming the pack is faulty.

Question 2

At what state of health should a fleet EV be retired?

Accepted Answer

There is no universal number, and retiring on a threshold alone destroys value. Retire when no route in your network fits the vehicle's remaining usable energy with a safe reserve, when the degradation slope is accelerating rather than flattening, or when today's resale value exceeds what the vehicle will earn before the next band. Otherwise redeploy it to a shorter duty cycle.

Question 3

Why does the OEM app show a different battery health figure from our fleet platform?

Accepted Answer

Usually because they are not the same quantity. Manufacturer apps often display a smoothed or rounded consumer-facing figure, while an API feed may expose a rawer computed value, and a bench capacity test measures something different again. None is necessarily wrong. Pick one source as your system of record, log which method produced every reading, and use the same source consistently in warranty and resale discussions.

Question 4

Can we claim warranty on a pack at 75% state of health?

Accepted Answer

Usually not. Common Indian contracts set the repair-or-replace trigger below 70% and treat gradual wear above that as normal, so a pack at 75% is typically your cost. Two things still matter at that point: keep the evidence series running so a later claim is provable, and check whether your registration type is even covered — commercial and corporate registrations are excluded from some headline consumer battery warranties.

Question 5

How often should a fleet measure battery state of health?

Accepted Answer

Capture the BMS-reported value on every telematics sync and snapshot it monthly into the asset register — the trend is what you need, and it costs nothing to collect. Run a controlled capacity test only at three points: handover, the year the warranty floor comes into view, and immediately before disposal or a resale negotiation.
